View Curriculum

One of the huge frustrations parents have is that they do not know what is taught in SRI the curriculum is not given to the schools and because the program is run as “shadow curriculum” the information is hard to get to.

This is one parent’s story:

I approached the school office for a syllibus of the CRE for Prep, they didn’t have one and looked at me like I had two heads. I found it easier to do by phoning the office, I ended up being given the phone number of the coordinator of CRE at the school (not a teacher) and had a talk with her about wanting the syllibus and my concerns.

It was her daughter that would be the new teacher. She seemed also a bit confused as to my level of concern and interest (like “why would I want to know all this? She made available to me the syllibus and work book (a child had recently left the class) which I had to give back the next day.

I talked with her teacher about my daughters confusion and level of distress. She suggested putting her elsewhere (other than the computer room) when CRE was on if she was upset.

Thankfully she calmed down and got used to being removed from the class. I kept an ongoing dialogue with her about how she was feeling.

Now in Grade one she is one of 5-6 children who opt out and is in the computer room doing who knows what but she hardly mentions it now.

Overall not a bad outcome in terms of my daughters coping with being removed from her class.

The impression I have is most parents opt in because it is the “done thing”. Most parents seemed baffled and a bit uncomfortable about me talking about it so I stopped. None any knowledge of Access Ministries and who was teaching and what was being “taught”.

Because of this we have collected as much of the SRI material as we can and it can be downloaded below:
