An amazingly shallow assessment of the state of play in NSW, from a cynical political reporter in Sydney …
While I read the article and my brain was already at ask questions to the author of this article but what got my gripe was her last ro second last paragraph, “To me, people who view the Bible and Christ with disdain are sneering at the very foundations of our society. These are the same people who end up seeking solace in macrobiotics, transcendental meditation and voting for the Greens.”
When xians screams persecution, you can wonder why as they are treated those whom don’t follow their religion with such contempt after such an offensive remark without any such basis.
I mean didn’t Jesus say that the first commandment was to Love God and second “Love Thy Neighbour”… I guess that they missed out on the second commandment.
A rather confused article, Mr Crawford’s grasp of history is weak, and his attachment to Christianity specifically rather than religion in general is odd, given that he says “I’m not a practising Christian”, and “Religion for me has never been more than an occasional dalliance”.
However, he has seized upon Christianity as the sole Fount of All Wisdom, on the apparent grounds that he was taught it at school.
Here we see the consequences of Religious Instruction, rather than education about religion, Mr Crawford can only see the matter from inside the walls, which are surrounded by barbarians.
I made a comment on the article, quite a polite one, I wonder if it will appear?
This argument is thrown at me a lot in debates over CRE. Christianity is the basis of our culture. But it is in fact incorrect, Greek and roman systems led to ours and they were pagans.
I could go into more detail but my point is that this propaganda is false. Our society and culture is not based on Christian values. If so stoning would be a lot more prevalent.
You could state that the foundation of Australia is based on criminal enterprise or maybe in the case of SA profit.
What a silly, vapid little bit of nonsense.
“Most importantly, from kindergarten until Year 6, I learnt the fundamentals of the Christian faith, which in turn allowed me to better appreciate modern society.”
Does anyone else wonder why it takes 7 years to learn just the fundamentals of the christian faith? That’s almost twice as long as some university courses. The basic tenets of the christian faith could be laid out to a child in an hour and just exactly how this leads to the ability to “better appreciate modern society” is beyond me, I have a sneaking suspicion that Crawford threw that line in because he thinks it sounds important.
“Surely this is as important as learning how to read, write, spell and count.”
Not if you want to get a job once you finish school it isn’t.
There’s hardly any point in bothering with the rest of this juvenile garbage. My favourite bit is this:
“I’d much rather she believed the story about Noah’s Ark than was asked to consider whether eating a steak means she is an accessory after the fact to a murder.”
What a deliciously stupid sentence. Crawford wants his child to believe in a story about a god who kills every living thing on the face of the earth save for those in a big boat but gets sweaty palms at the thought of his child learning that to eat meat an animal has to die.
What a moron.
My comment on Mr Crawford’s article did not appear. In fact there are no comments visible at all. Doesn’t say much for the Daily Telegraph.
